Preschool Services
We provide preschool evaluations and special education services for children living in Granville, Heath, Licking Valley, North Fork and Johnstown School Districts.
Child find is the process of identifying, locating and evaluating all children from age three to twenty one who may have a disability and be in need of special education and related services, regardless of the severity of the disability.
We are a central contact point in Licking County for Child Find activities and referrals for children who are suspected of having a disability.
Children with suspected disabilities can be referred for an evaluation conducted by our preschool staff. Our evaluation process includes observations and assessments conducted by an evaluation team and input collected by the child's caregivers. The evaluation team may consist of a school psychologist, intervention specialist, speech and language pathologist, occupational therapist and physical therapist.
The parent/guardian is an essential member of the evaluation team. An evaluation team meeting is held to discuss and review the evaluation results. If the team determines that the child has a disability the team, along with the parent, will develop an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
Children may have a range of needs identified through the evaluation process, including communication, fine motor, gross motor, cognitive, adaptive and social emotional behavioral functioning. These needs are addressed in our preschool program by a school psychologists, school counselor, behavioral specialist intervention specialists, speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists.
We offer a continuum of services in our program. Children can receive services in a general education preschool classroom, an integrated preschool classroom, special education classroom or itinerantly in a community preschool, daycare or home setting. Our integrated and special education classrooms have a maximum of 16 students.
