Requirements for Substitute Teachers applying through our office:
Please note: ALL LRESC Substitute Teachers are required to have a Bachelor's Degree.
- Substitute Teacher Application - attached below Please submit the completed application to the Licking Regional Educational Service Center. To apply for a district not listed on our application, you will need to reach out directly to the district.
- Criminal History Form - attached below
- Ohio Substitute, Resident Educator, or Teaching License. Applicants applying for or renewing a license will do so through ODE's website at http://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Teaching/Educator-Licensure. Please select our organization as your eSigner by entering our IRN #047977. You will receive e/mail confirmation once your license is issued. It is your responsibility to print a copy and submit it to our office.
- BCI/FBI Background Check. We require a current criminal background checks (BCI and FBI) for all employees. The background checks can be no more than 365 days old from the date you are hired and must of have been completed for the purpose of school employment. Background checks can be completed in our office for a fee of $65 (payable by cash or check). Please call for an appointment.
- Fraud Reporting and Training Certificate. Public entities are required to have their employees complete Fraud Training through the Auditor of State's Office every four years. The online training can be accessed through their website at https://ohioauditor.gov/trainings/fraud.html#:~:text=Under%20Ohio%20law%2C%20the%20AOS,course%20of%20our%20audit%20work. Please provide our office with your certificate of completion following this short (currently 7-minute) video!
- On-Line Workshop. You are exempt from this requirement if you have a degree in education and have completed student teaching or have ever held an ODE issued license with documented teaching experience in a K-12 public school setting.
- Previous substitute teaching experience in an Ohio K-12 public school system qualifies for the training exemption.
- The online course is offered through the OCST and information can be found by going to their website at https://www.pickawayesc.org/page/training.
- Signed Medical Statement. ONLY required if you plan to work at Flying Colors Preschool. Must be completed by a physician.
The Licking Regional ESC will be using the Frontline Absence Management System to secure substitute teachers for their Flying Colors Preschool, Phoenix Central School and MD classrooms throughout the county. The video below will provide basic training on how to use the system:
